May 11, 2020 is a big day at the Shanghai Disney Resort. After having an extended limited opening of its Disneytown Shopping and Dining district, the resort will be able to reopen the Shanghai Disneyland park as well.
Even though Shanghai Disneyland is only prepared to welcome about 30% of the guests it would normally see on a day, it is reopening. That’s reason to celebrate.
To help everyone get in the spirit, Disney has released the original opening ceremony for the park on YouTube.
The ceremony was filmed in 2016 and featured a live orchestra, dignitaries, fireworks, projections, singers and dancers for the dedication.
With Shanghai Disneyland opening on May 11 and a few locations at Disney Springs opening on May 20, there are definitely some good signs for those hoping to return to Walt Disney World or Disneyland later this year. That said, the parks and resorts in Orlando and Anaheim remain closed and no reopening date has been announced.
You must have a date-specific ticket to visit the park and tickets for the May 11 reopening at Shanghai went fast with all the full day tickets already gone and only a few half-day tickets left for fans who want to visit the park.
When the park reopens it will continue some of the spring time celebrations it had originally planned, but a lot of the park will be limited.
For instance, there will be no character meet and greets, but there will be photo opportunities at a distance. Some shows and attractions won’t be open and strict physical distancing and face covering restrictions will be in place.
