If you love to cruise out of Galveston, Texas and love the Disney Cruise Line, you’ll be happy to hear about a new agreement that will lock the Disney and the Port of Galveston together in a 10-year preferential berthing agreement. As part of the agreement Disney will more than double the number of sailings departing from the port.
The Disney Cruise Line has already announced expansion of its fleet by 3 ships, with the first arriving in 2021. The agreement to increase sailings phases in over the first five years of the contract, giving DCL time to get at least one more ship in the fleet before increasing departures from Galveston.
The terminal Disney will use accommodates ships in the Disney Magic class, so either the Wonder or the Magic might move there on a more regular basis.
“September 22, 2012, marked the first time ever that a Disney Cruise Line ship set sail from the State of Texas with the maiden voyage of Disney Wonder. The Port has been seasonal homeport to both Disney Wonder and Disney Magic ever since. We are thrilled to be able to continue to give Texas and the southwest region of the United States the opportunity to experience Disney cruise vacations from their own backyard,” said Port of Galveston CEO/Port Director, Rodger Rees in a statement. “We are proud to be one of the few selected home ports for Disney Cruise Line.”
“Our guests have loved visiting Galveston and setting sail from this historic port to the western Caribbean, Key West, and the Bahamas,” said Jeff Vahle, president of Disney Signature Experiences and Disney Cruise Line. “As we plan to expand our fleet and introduce new experiences and entertainment aboard our ships, we couldn’t be more excited to extend our commitment with the Port of Galveston.”
The agreement can be renewed in two five year terms. So get used to departing from Galveston, Disney Cruise Line fans.
The next departures from Galveston currently listed by the Disney Cruise Line are scheduled for December 2019 aboard the Disney Wonder to destinations in the Caribbean and the Bahamas!
