This year the start of the holiday season at Disneyland welcomed a new 60ft tall Christmas tree to the iconic Town Square location on Main Street U.S.A.. 1,500 new decorations reflect the turn-of-the-(last)-century Victorian era of Main Street. The 100 oversized faux candles on the tree flicker at night making for a beautiful warm period effect.
“We are the only theme park in California that has this wonderful turn-of-the-century Victorian Main Street, and for the holidays we create a Victorian Christmas,” said Kim Irvine, Art Director Walt Disney Imagineer. ‘You’re going to feel like you’ve stepped into another time and place with the beautiful lights, pine garland, the music and the new tree.”
When you cross under the train tracks into Town Square you’re eyes are immediately drawn to the Christmas tree and it sets the tone for the rest of your visit. New new ornaments give a level of authenticity and detail that sets Disneyland’s holiday celebration apart and makes it a must-do experience for families all holiday season.
“Be sure to look for the candles on the tree. They look like the real flickering candles you see in movies and pictures of old-time Christmas,” said Irvine. “It adds a really fun dimension to the tree this year.”
