After debuting in June of this year, the Play Disney Parks App has had a mostly quiet period among park guests. The big rollout was simultaneous with the opening of Toy Story Land and I think it kind of got lost a bit. That might be the way Disney wanted it as the system has had a chance to make a few tweaks and adjustments over the last few months and is now rolling its first major expansion.
Now, guests who visit the Art of Animation Resort or Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, will find new interactive experiences waiting for them on the mobile app. The Play Disney Parks app is designed to turn wait time into play time and help your group enjoy these experiences together.
Here’s how to use the Play Disney Parks app if you’ve never tried it before:
At Pandora – The World of Avatar guests download the ACE Guide to Pandora: Valley of Mo’ara Edition. It will help you explore the colors, cultures, and creatures of Pandora and learn about the alien moon via interesting facts, trivia, and activities.
You can enjoy this Pandora experience anywhere within Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but its designed to help you pass the time in queue while waiting for the uber popular Avatar Flight of Passage attraction.
Disney also added their first Play Disney Parks experience at a Disney resort hotel. By scanning the art-filled walls of the Art of Animation Resort lobby, the app will let you transform the art into your own animated stories. Right now there are stories inspired by “Finding Nemo,” “The Lion King,” The Little Mermaid,” and “Cars.”
Finally, Disney has begun allowing guests who accomplish certain challenges through the app to purchase limited edition Disney pins that signify their completion of the game or other activity. Proof that you completed your challenge is required before you can purchase your corresponding pin. This appears to be a test right now with no guarantee it will continue after the test completes.
Were you looking for a new way to pass the time with family and friends while you wait for your favorite Disney theme park attractions? Will you download and use the Play Disney Parks app on your next visit?
