If you want to Hang 10, there’s one place to go at Walt Disney World – Typhoon Lagoon. The Disney water park offers 3 hour private surf sessions for experienced guests and surfing lessons for those who are just beginning or intermediate riders.
The Disney Blog was invited to attend a surfing lesson, so we sent our Disney Kids Life correspondent Indigo. A great time was had by all and he was even able to successfully surf a number of waves as you can see in this video:
The lesson is all done before the Typhoon Lagoon opens, so you’ll have an early wake up call. Up first is a stop on dry-land for a safety lesson and then a class on how to surf. Then you head to Typhoon Lagoon’s state-of-the-art wave pool with a surf board that’s just right for you.
Students then surf in pairs for two sets of waves for between 4 to 6 sets depending on the class size. There are waves up to six feet tall if you’re a quick learner, but Disney’s surfing pros can give you a smaller wave to surf if you’re just beginning.
Each class lasts 2.5 hours and will have no more than 12 students. Surfing equipment is provided, including towels and a beginner surfboard. Lessons are open to guests age 8 or older. Strong swimmers recommended.
The cost for a lesson is $190 per person. It includes a light breakfast, digital photography, and the surfing lessons. If you wish to stay around for the regular operating ours of Typhoon Lagoon, you’ll have to buy a separate valid water park ticket.
Indigo had a great time and thanks to the instructors was able to get up and ride a few of the smaller waves. With a little more practice we’re sure he’d be surfing the taller waves too. Have you ever wanted to try surfing? Typhoon Lagoon’s surfing lessons may be a great option for you.
