It’s been a weak Summer at the box office, but the God of Thunder has the strength to overcome the doldrums with a $121 million opening this weekend for Thor: Ragnarok. Second place was a distant Bad Moms Christmas with just $17M. This fantastic opening means Thor’s box office has increased with each of the trilogy’s releases.
Combine the domestic box office with the $306M international box office, where Thor has been swinging his hammer for a couple weekends, and the grand total for Thor: Ragnarok is an already hefty $427M.
The best film of the year so far is Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, which earned $504M domestically and $1.263 Billion worldwide.
Next up from Marvel Studios is Black Panther on February 16, 2018.
