Helped by a three-day weekend, the second weekend of domestic release for the latest Marvel super hero film from Disney. Doctor Strange conjured up another $43M at the box office. That levitates Disney’s domestic box office total above $2.3B, pushing over last year’s previous record amount.
One odd quirk from theater exit surveys, Doctor Strange is tracking better with parents than with their kids. Turns out there is money in making super hero movies that adults like too. Who knew?
On the international front, Doctor Strange is in its third weekend and has now earned $339.6M with big help from China’s $83.5M contribution. That brings the world wide gross to $492.6M. Looks like a finish in the top 10 films of the year is on the horizon too.
Doctor Strange is currently tracking to finish with a larger total than Thor: The Dark World, Ant-Man, and even Guardians of the Galaxy. Benedict Cumberbatch shouldn’t plan on hanging up that cloak of levitation anytime soon, I’m sure Disney will be calling with a contract for a sequel sooner rather than later.
