Pixar’s Cars 2 had its world premiere Saturday night at the El Capitan. While I haven’t seen the movie yet, a few early reviews are already out and the word looks to be pretty positive.
Justin Chang at Variety says “John Lasseter and his team have hit the creative accelerator with the unexpectedly delightful ‘Cars 2.’… The rare sequel that not only improves on but retroactively justifies its predecessor.”
The Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy calls the film “Cooler cars and more action follow Lightning and Mater as they mix it up with spies and Formula 1 racers in yet another Pixar winner.” I also liked this quote “Even as recent Pixar films have benefited from increased simplicity and modulation of mood and effect, Lasseter keeps Cars 2 running at close to the red line from start to finish with nary a pit stop to refuel.”
Both reviewers also complimented Michael Giacchino’s score.
It sound like Cars 2 should easily outpace it’s sibling and Pixar continues to be under good stewardship.
Ah, “Mater: The Motion Picture”. Now with more explosions!
Pass.
