Here’s an interesting footnote for Disney history, the first ever promoted Trending Topic on the popular Twitter.com microblogging service was advertising Pixar’s much anticipated Toy Story 3 film.
If you log onto the web service and look in the right hand column you’ll see that ‘Toy Story 3’ appears in the ‘trending topics’ list with a button that says ‘sponsored’ next to it.
If you click on that line you’re taken to a search for ‘Toy Story 3’ with, of course, a tweet from the @DisneyPixar account right at the top. It also states that this was ‘promoted by Disney*Pixar’.
It’s great to see Disney experimenting with social media for marketing its movies. If you follow the search you can see that there was already a lot of buzz on twitter about Toy Story 3, so it makes perfect sense to advertise there. No word on that a campaign like this costs.
