With the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend, it seems like a good time to revisit a juicy rumor. Themepark insider picks up on the stories about Formula 1 coming to Disneyland Paris.
Published reports in France have the Formula 1 wanting to move the French Grand Prix from Magny Cours to Paris. And Disneyland Paris appears to be the preferred site. The French prime minister is on board. Disney appears to be on board. F1 likes the site.
So what’s the hold-up? Hey, it’s Formula 1! As always, the hold-up is money. Disney doesn’t want to pay the estimated $31 million in expenses to run the race, and is waiting for the French government to step up instead. And heaven forbid that F1 pays to run its own races.
I think this would be a great move for the French Mouse. Come to think of it, this would be a great move for the Central Florida Mouse too. (Read)
This would be beyond cool. F1 in Disneyland sounds amazing. I don’t know how it could be really done, but it’s a great idea. Hopefully they’ll find a way to work it out.
Oh my god, I’ve had this idea for ages but I placed it at World of Sports in Florida. As you can no dubt tell from my name, I love F1. Also love Disney. This is like…I mean, two of my favourite things in one place. I want this BAD
You have to understand the Bernie Eclestone world of economics wherein the venue must be willing to pay a valuable amount yearly in addition to the up-front capitalization of a Herman Tilke track before it will happen.
Gurrini is right….just ask the folks in Indianapolis :-) As for the French GP, I thought it would move to Circuit Paul Ricard
