Walt Disney World has announced it will give the Lynx regional bus system grants of over $1.5 million dollars and the state agrees to send almost another $5 million of fees and taxes paid to the transportation fund by Disney to increase the number and frequency of buses heading to the resort from areas where cast members live.
Disney relies on the public transportation system to deliver cast members at all hours of the day and night, sending this money along will guarantee that these routes will run despite any other cutbacks Lynx might have to make in these tough economic times. That’s important when you’re the largest single site employer in the state.
This deal could eventually lay the footwork for an express route from Orlando International Airport to the Convention Center and on to Walt Disney World. Frankly, I wonder why they don’t have that already.
