The long awaited DVD release of The Muppet Show – Season Two is finally available for purchase. It was worth the wait. Fans are greeted by a cover featuring the uncomparable, unbearable Miss Piggy (What was that you called me?). This is your chance to experience some of your favorite episodes featuring some of your favorite guest stars such as Don Knotts, Nancy Walker, Edgar Bergen, Steve Martin, Madeline Kahn, Bernadette Peters, Rudolf Nureyev, Elton John, Julie Andrews, Jaye P. Morgan, Peter Sellers, John Cleese, and Cloris Leachman.
Unlike the season one set, all episodes are unedited and include bonus UK skits and closings. Especially good is the fact that all the music appears to have been included. Season 1 suffered from missing music due to some music rights issues. Getting these rights was likely the cause of the delay of this DVD set.
One disappointment with this set is the paucity of special features and behind-the-scenes footage. Some audio commentaries would be great and perhaps some of the Muppet Specials that have been produced over the years.
Season two of The Muppet Show is when the show really started coming into its own. Small changes improved the pace and the fun. The Henson puppeteers were entering their prime and the characters personalities were finally firmed up. This was the first time I had seen many of these episodes since I was much younger. It certainly was a joy to relive all those zany moments.
