It is no secret that Disney World has more to offer than Disneyland Resort in terms of events and festivals. I try not to be too bitter about this and reason that it is a matter of size and amenities rather than some conspiracy theory. That said, I’m happy to announce that after 13 years as an exclusive Florida event, Disney is bringing their immensely popular marathon weekend to California. Granted, it is only a half-marathon, but what the heck, we have half the parks- I’ll take it.
The official website (above link) states:
The Disneyland® Resort, Disney’s Wide World of Sports®, and the city of Anaheim, California are happy to introduce the Inaugural DISNEYLAND® Half Marathon Weekend, presented by KAISER PERMANENTE®, the Happiest Race on Earth! Drawing from 13 years of history with the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon Weekend in Florida, this new event will welcome thousands of runners to the Disneyland® Resort and the city of Anaheim in September 2006, setting a tradition for many years to come.
Daunted by even a half-marathon (hey, it’s still roughly 13 miles!), don’t fret, there will also be a 5k family fun run and kid races, in addition to a health and fitness expo. It all takes place September 15-17, and room is limited. If you want to race you better hurry.
This is obviously a big step in the right direction for Disney, now how about bringing that wine festival out here- I mean we make most of the stuff, what’s up?
