The cuteness factor has just been raised by a factor over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Momma elephant Donna suffered through a rough 16-minute labor and gave birth to a dainty young girl weighing in at just 233 pounds.
The birth is the third elephant calf to be born at the park in as many years. An exciting development for Dr. Beth Stevens, vice president of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park and President of the American
Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA).
"African elephants are endangered and difficult to breed, and having a
successful birth is a significant event both for the species and for our
talented and experienced team of elephant experts who have been working on
this breeding program for more than five years."
Can’t wait to see the as-yet unnamed baby. She’ll be available for viewing via camera at first, then make her way onto the savannah in a few months. Congrats to the staff at Disney’s Animal Kingdom for the success.
