Disney is about to release a new Animated Film, but it’s not from Walt Disney Feature Animation, in fact it’s not from the Walt Disney Company at all. Valiant was created by Vanguard Studios and was bought for distribution by Disney.
Motley Fool thinks Disney’s strategy is a little murky with this one. I have to disagree. On its face it seems flawed to release this under the Disney label when it is the fruit of another studio. But that is exactly what the Disney Studio did with Pixar and Toy Story. It might be a wise move by Disney to develop a little farm league of cg animators that produce films and animators that Disney has first dibs on. Having this feeder system set up will give Disney more leverage in their negotiations with Pixar. Vanguard seems to understand, their website is a direct lift from Pixar‘s.
Of course, this is all predicated on a decent return from the Valiant. It has a cute trailer, a great premise, and a wonderful cast of voice actors (Tim Curry, Ewan McGregor, John Cleese)

Yeah, but if Disney wants to put some pressure against Pixar, they better choose the right partners. The technical (and artistical) quality of Valiant is ages worse than any Pixar movie. I went to a screening as soon as it was premiered in Spain hoping it was a great movie, but I was deceived from the first minute :(
What I don’t get is why they are releasing this movie so close to Chicken Little. On the surface they look very similar.
