Mousekeeping

Just a little ‘mouse’keeping note: I’m in the process of moving The Disney Blog to its own domain www.TheDisneyBlog.com and onto the MovableType blogging platform. I’m working with LivingDot.com for the hosting and everyone there has been very helpful so far. So let’s hope things go smoothly. But if things do get a little rocky around here for the next few days, that’s why.

More on the switch below…

I must say I’ve been very happy with Typepad. It is very easy to learn and the support team has been helpful when I needed them. It continues to be a great platform for the beginning blogger.

I’m also happy to say that my traffic levels are now such that I am butting up against the bandwidth limit for Typepad. Thanks to all of my readers for that. But this move will hopefully allow the blog to be accessible to all readers without having to worry about going over any bandwidth limit.

My biggest issue with Typepad is the lack of a ‘blog archive’. If I want any of my Typepad sites to stick around I have to continue paying the same set fee even if I never update the site again. I’d love to see a low yearly fee $20, let’s say, that allows a dead blog to live on in near-perpetuity. I’d even be happy with a very limited amount of bandwidth for the site. If Six-Apart did this, I think they’d find more people making the migration from Typepad to one of their other products.

The move to LivingDot and Movable Type will hopefully allow me to
consolidate my various blogs (public, personal, volunteer) and save
some money on the hosting at the same time. It should also provide me a new skill, MovableType, which I can bring to bear at my new job where I’ll be blogging as part of my position (but more on that later. It deserves its own post).

So, if you’ve stuck with me this far. Let me say again, thank you so much for your readership. I run this blog because of my love for Disney and all its facets. That definitely includes the fans. This blog wouldn’t be the same without you.

  1. John, thanks for your thoughtful comments. We’ve been glad to have you on TypePad as its great sites like yours that show people what the service can do, and we’re glad to be keeping you in the family on Movable Type. I’ll make sure our product team sees your feedback, and please get in touch if you’d have a chance to talk more about what you’d like to see for TypePad.

  2. Looking forward to seeing what you do at this new domaine. I’ve really been enjoying your blog since I found it. Keep up the great work.
