The Walt Disney Company has announced the opening date for their Hong Kong park. September 12th 2005 was the day chosen by the Feng Shui experts as most likely to ensure success.
Disney has some work cut out for them as they rush to make this opening date. In their favor is the small number of attractions scheduled for opening day. They’re not going to make the same mistake here that they did in Paris, which was to saddle the park with loads of debt. Paris is profitable, has been since day one, but the interest payments are keeping the park from breaking even every year.
Another interesting part of this announcement was a 2-tiered pricing system, one for weekdays and one for weekends and holidays. As far as I know this has never been done at Disney before. Traditionally specials or promotions were offered for the off season to bring in the crowds. I’ll be curious to see how this works.
Build it and they will come
Hong Kong’s newest white elephant will “soon” be open for business. Hong Kong Disneyland opens on September 12th next year. The good news is the park will be the cheapest Disney in the world…except on “special days”. A better name would be “days when…
Please can you inform me if the Hong Kong Disney Theme Park will be open in time for October? My family is due to travel there early October this year.
Many thanks,
