The Orlando Sentinel reports that Disney has been considering getting into the cell phone business. The Disney brand and the ESPN brand look to be the likely choices.
ESPN-brand cell phones and service plans could be tailored to individual sports teams, allowing users to view sports scores, news and video clips, said Robert Entner, an analyst at The Yankee Group
I wonder when the last time the people at Disney read Engadget or Gizmodo. Tomorrow’s consumers are looking for more than just a cell phone. They’d be wise to listen to the analysts and provide something that is the next step beyond. I’m a huge fan of Disneyana, but even I am not likely to switch cell phone providers unless it’s for something spectacular. ( Hey, how about free themepark admission with the service? I can dream, right.)
