Disney Mike is on a quest to compile a complete list of all Hidden Mickey’s at Disneyland. Let’s help him out.
What is a Hidden Mickey? According to HiddenMickeys.org it:
started out as inside jokes among the Walt Disney Imagineers. A Hidden Mickey is an image of Mickey Mouse concealed in the design of a Disney attraction (ride, resort, etc…).
A key element of a true Hidden Mickey is its deliberate placement by an Imagineer. Lessor Hidden Mickey’s include those placed by Cast Members who work in the attraction (the plates in the haunted mansion), accidental Mickeys (3 barrels whose shadow makes a mickey), and design mickeys (a mickey shaped towel rack, or a mickey pattern on a rug). Disney Mike wasn’t clear exactly which he was looking for. So try to stick to the classic Hidden Mickeys. :)
John,
Thank you for this post calling on fellow Disneyland fans to participate in “The Great Hidden Mickey Quest,” as you so aptly named it.
I hope to be able to provide a list of Hidden Mickeys at my site for everyone young and old to enjoy! :O)
My family and I (all grown children) are planning to go to Disneyland next summer for the 50th anniversary. I would like books on Hidden Mickeys at DisneyLAND to give to them for Christmas. Any suggestions? And, if not, IS there a comprehensive checklist?? Thanks!!
According to one of the cast members, there are 3 hidden Mickeys on the ride “Soaring over Californnia”
1. On the golf ball.
2. Someone in the orchard is wearing Mickey ears.
3. The fireworks at the end make a Mickey head.
I’ve only seen the Mickey on the golf ball, and the fireworks that make a Mickey head.
On Heimlich’s Chew-Choo at the end of the ride, look at the rocks on your right as you re-enter the station, Three form the Mouse.
hello! we are currently working on a website for the hidden mickeys of DISNEYLAND! we are sticking to classic hidden mickeys and also decorative ones…no wishfuls or accidentals! it’s still in progress, but i think we have a lot up including the 50th golden mickeys! thank you!
PS…our website is findingmickey.com!
there is a hidden micky in the brick wall in pirates where they are shooting canons at the pirates and there is also one in the bed scene on the left side, the chair at the desk has one on the top of it! also in the haunted mansion on the dinning room table the plates are shaped like mickey and in the libary on one of the book cases to the left!
