Imagineering shares Matterhorn Bobsleds enhancements

When Disneyland’s Matterhorn Bobsleds opened in 1959 it was the first ever tubular steel coaster and a real innovation in theme park attractions. Over the years it has been updated to look more like a complete mountain, it acquired a monster – the Abominable Snowman, lost the holes where the Skyway used to pass through, and later a tribute to Frank Wells.

Walt Disney Imagineering’s experts have just finished a new update to the attraction updating the Abominable Snowman up to more current audio-animatronic show standards. They’ve also ‘plussed’ a few more show scenes and added some fun Easter eggs:

My grandfather worked on the Matterhorn during his time at Imagineering, so it holds a special place in my heart. I can’t wait to get back to Disneyland and see the improvements for myself. If you don’t want to wait until your next trip, you can enjoy a POV ride-through courtesy the fine folks at MouseSteps:

What do you think of the changes?
