Disney characters make special trip to Japan’s Tsunami Evacuees

While Tokyo Disneyland has opened and Tokyo DisneySea draws closer to regular operations, much of northeast Japan is still dealing with the after effects of the twin earthquake and tsunami devastation. It’s nice to read a report of Disney sending some of its cast of characters out to visit the evacuation centers where many families with kids are still living:

“I like Mickey a lot,” said 6-year-old Yuki Sato, a first-grade student who smiled shyly when Mickey Mouse stroked his head. “I want to go to Disneyland.”

The adults were grateful that the Disney characters came by to bolster the spirits of their children.

“We are not in a situation where we can go to amusement parks,” said 49-year-old Emiko Omura. “So we thank them for coming here. Their visit is the best one for the children.”

Disney announced plans to visit many other centers as well.
