John Lasseter on Toy Story Playland at Paris Disneyland Resort

A video from DLRPfans.be (Belgium I believe) of John Lasseter talking about Toy Story Playland addition to the Walt Disney Studios park at Disneyland Paris Resort

This is the first time I’ve seen footage from the new land. It’s interesting how these off the shelf rides are so much better themed than what was originally built at California Adventure (or Dinoland at DAK, take your pick). Probably not that much more expensive to do it right the first time.

When I read about the Toy Story Playland at Disneyland Paris, I wasn’t too impress. After seeing this video, I think it would be a great addition to Disney’s Hollywood Studios or even a Mickey’s Clubhouse version at the Magic Kingdom. Some new “thrills” for younger visitors and families would be great.

Very cool. What I like is that all three of these rides are pretty well-themed (even if they are standard amusement park rides) and they are something that adults could enjoy as well. I do think Bug’s Land is well-themed, but it’s all just kiddie rides. I’m not really a fan of having a section of the park that is not worth going to if you don’t have kids. This Toy Story Playland looks like a ‘land’ that everyone could potentially enjoy. And it’s a bonus that it appears to only take up a small footprint within the park.

  8. John you are absolutely right. The difference between these new Toy Story rides and those “off the shelf” ones originally built at California Adventure or DAK Dinoland is all in the theme. Make it a Disney theme and you have a winner. Even if it’s just a kid’s attraction, I’ll ride it and have fun. But if it’s just another cheap carnival attraction, there’s no emotional attachment and I don’t ride it.

  9. I was hoping for more than three rides, but otherwise I think it’s a nice addition to the park.
