The end of Contracts at Walt Disney Feature Animation

Steve at The Animation Guild blog discusses the recent history of Personal Service Contracts at Walt Disney Feature Animation and their future and enforceability. The PSC really came into popularity after the arrival of Eisner at Disney and the Dreamworks Split. The goal being to tie up all the talent at your studio instead of the competitors. What Steve doesn’t address is whether or not this had the effect of driving up the cost of making animated features for the studio, and in turn, the end of Hand Drawn Animation (or at least the recent hiatus).

Speaking of Hand Drawn Animation Jenny at The Blackwing Diaries is hosting a master class on Freddy Moore’s art work at her blog. Start with this post and then work forward in time
