New Featurettes Released in Honor of the Debut of Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” on Disney+

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

After smashing the box office during the holiday season, Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” debuts on Disney+ today, February 1, 2023, and several behind-the-scenes featurettes have been released in honor of that.

The Featurettes

If you didn’t see “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” in theaters, I suggest you fire up Disney+ and give the movie a watch, as these featurettes may be a bit spoilerish.

Costuming helps create characters, and this movie’s costumes were so good the film’s costumer Ruth E. Carter is nominated for an Oscar for her work.

In this featurette, she takes viewers behind-the-scenes showing how she created the costumes for this movie:

In the film, Talokan’s Namor can move freely through water and air utilizing wings on his ankles, and in this featurette, viewers learn how the wings work.

Geoffrey Baumann, Visual Effects Supervisor for the film, and Ryan Meinerding, Head of Visual Development for Marvel Studios, talk about the collaborative process of designing Namor’s wings and creating a realistic flight motion for Namor, which was inspired by both birds and professional athletes.

A lot of the scenes in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” take place in and under water, and this next featurette shows how those Oscar-nominated visuals were created.

Geoffrey Baumann, Visual Effects Supervisor for the film talks about the incredible blending of real-life underwater filming and visual effects techniques to create the many beautiful and action-packed underwater scenes from the film.

The Movie

In “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba) fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death.

As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) to forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.

Introducing Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of Talokan, the film also stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena, and Alex Livinalli.

Ryan Coogler returns to direct, and the film is produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore.
