Which theme park has the most coherent theme?

Of the four big Disney theme parks in Orlando, which would you say has the most coherent themeing throughout. There's the original Magic Kingdom, but it's had some trouble with keeping a coherent theme in Adventureland and Tomorrowland. At EPCOT just what is the deal with FutureWorld? Disney's Hollywood Studios is a great name in search of a theme. Even Disney's Animal Kingdom has some issues with the Lion King Show in a campground instead of Africa. Then there is the travesty that is Dinoland.

Which park do you think manages to hold it together the best?

Wow. I thought I had an answer until I finished reading your post. Yeah, I was going to say DAK but I think you're right about the Lion King show. (Altho' the singing counselors at the beginning are my fave!)

The good thing about Magic Kingdom is the name: it can encompass ANYTHING. So altho' the lands chop it up, it's still magical.

But back to Animal Kingdom: I've been wondering about their logo forever. The first time I went was in 98 when it opened and we were excited b/c the winged dragon was on the logo and we knew there would be something soon about that. Unfortunately...not so much.

So, to answer your question: I have no idea.

Well you both make good points- for me the Lion King fits better in Camp Minnie Mickey than does Nemo in Dinoland (though I do love the Nemo musical!).

So of the 4 main parks I'd go with DHS. It's all a studio feeling and you can go anywhere in the park and still feel like you're part of the movies!

There remains much hope among fans of the park that the 'Beastly Kingdom' will still be built. However, word from the Imagineers who keep watch over DAK have made it known that while they do have plans to change Camp Minnie Mickey into a new land, it won't be Beastly Kingdom.

I also agree with Sharla that Nemo being in Dinoland doesn't make much sense at all. But I don't really place that theater inside the Dinoland area. It just sort of sits there on its on because that's where the original theater was.

I would have to go with Epcot because while it is having a lot of problems finding it's place especially in Future World, I think World Showcase makes up for it. Amazing theming, so much entertainment and much more. Animal Kingdom does have it good but like you said Dinoland is a bit on the...um.... that side.

Although my favorite park is Disney's Hollywood Studios, I would have to agree with Kryptonlogic about Epcot. It does seem to hold itself together the best in the way of theming with World Showcase. However, with the exception of Tomorrowland the Magic Kingdom does a great job as well.

  7. I have to third that opinion. Epcot has always been my favorite park. I've been obsessed with Epcot since I was a little kid and used to go all the time. I think they have the theme that works the most. Their theme always made the most sense to me. With the tiny exception of Future World, never really understood what was going on there.

This is such a scary topic! ;) Everyone has their opinions and it is all based on personal taste and experiences.

The Magic Kingdom and Epcot are the only original parks at WDW. MK is a copy of its older sister at Disneyland (with changes, of course) and Epcot is a re-design of the 1939-1940 and 1964-1965 World's Fairs. AK and DHS are still trying to find themselves, in as much as Epcot is being forced to be reinvented. No one had ever done a park like Epcot before. AK has been touted as Nahtazu even though there is nothing to compare it to (besides Busch Gardens) and DHS was designed as competition for Universal. The intended design of DHS is no longer the focus--it has morphed into an attempt at capturing the teen market more than anything else.

When I look at the parks, I enjoy MK the most; Epcot is a close second. Those parks are more complete than the other two and offer a greater experience to the guest. I feel like DHS and AK suffered from mega budget cuts.
