Are we to accept that the current suite of sit-coms and cartoons is the future of the Disney Channel. Or is there room for a return to the classic drama that Disney used to feature on Sunday nights. What about bringing back Vault Disney? Is there a need for that now that DVDs covering those shows have been released? Or is a Disney Channel Classic channel on Hulu the way to go?

The Disney Channel, what should be changed?

I think an important thing to remember is that this seems to be the direction these channels are heading. Most of the other content seems to be reserved for on-demand channels. I miss VH1 and MTV being dedicated music channels. I would love to see Disney put classic cartoons back on the Disney Channel, but I don't think it will happen. On-demand solutions are probably the way to go, and I love the Hulu idea. Now that Disney is a partial owner there, it's probably only a matter of time.

The Hulu channel sounds pretty possible, especially if/when Hulu starts charging (possibly next year), a Vault Disney-type channel would be great asset to a subscription.

I would LOVE for the old stuff to be on Disney. I want my kids to like them. They could at least do another cable channel dedicated to old skool stuff.
As a kid, my favorite parts of Disney were the old shows and sneak peeks into Disney World. I wish there was some of that.
As long as Disney doesn't turn into Nick I'll be ok.

I think it would have to be an ondemand type of service that they offer. Disney appeals to such a wide variety of audiences that even if they offered a classics channel or a Vault-Disney channel, I think there would be a lot of hit or miss for many viewers.
Ondemand would allow access to everything, but could still cater to their many different audiences and fan bases, allowing them to watch what they want, when they want it.

I would love to see a return to Vault Disney, and I really wish they would go back to playing classic ABC shows (Boy Meets World, Growing Pains, etc) as after-hours programming. I doubt there are many kids watching Phineas and Ferb reruns at 11 PM, but I would love to watch some retro ABC stuff before bed.

It's interesting that Disney has 2 Disney Channels largely aimed at the same audience; even though Disney XD supposedly is aimed more at boys than the Disney Channel, they're both aimed at kids and teens. I'm a 24 year old female, and I still watch Disney Channel- I always have, and I always will, but I think that getting rid of Vault Disney, or any old Disney programming, was not a smart move. At least, between the 2 channels, some older(ish) shows, like "Lizzie McGuire", "The Famous Jett Jackson", and "Even Stevens" are still shown.
I think that there's a huge market for a Vault Disney-type channel, but the hugeness of the Disney fan market probably isn't nearly as huge as the kid and teen market. Especially as some of you pointed out, online subscription services seem to be the way of the future, and maybe it's cheaper and easier for Disney to put this material online. And, yes, the Treasures do allow the public to watch some of this older material, but those are limited editions, so not everyone who wants them necessarily can have them (I mean, there is the second-hand market...).
I think that as long as Disney puts the material out there- they must know that there's a demand for it- then it won't matter what's on the Disney Channel, and less people will complain about the direction that the Disney Channel has been headed in.
