Here we can discuss Disney villains! Who are your favorites? Who do you think is the most evil/scary/funny? Who do you wish you knew more about? Who do you think is a poor excuse for a villain?

As far as scariest villains, for me, hands-down it's the Horned King and Chernabog! I would not want to be in a room with either of them! They're just plain scary! And, I mean, the Horned King wants to take over the world with an army of deathless warriors...and Chernabog has his demon minions...not people I want to associate with!

I can say that the Horned King is one of my favorite villains (although we don't know much about why he is the way he is), but apart from scariness level, Chernabog isn't really one of my favorites.

I really like Alameda Slim and Ratigan. I don't think that Alameda is the best Disney villain, but there's something about the yodeling cowboy that draws me to him! Ratigan is a bit more complex; he's definitely smart and his dry humor is great. He's elegant, and I like that.

I don't think I'm doing a good job of explaining why here, but maybe you all will do a better job of explaining your reasons! :)

  2. John Frost
    Key Master

I have to stick with the classics, Snow White's Stepmother and Maleficent. Were they nice people who were misunderstood or classic evil? Depends on your point of view, I guess.

More recently, I think it's hard to beat Gaston as a Villain and I'm really looking forward to Dr. Facilier.

Let's list them, all I can find:

    Evil Queen (Snow White)
    Honest John (Pinocchio)
    Wicked Stepmother (Cinderella)
The Red Queen (Alice in Wonderland)
    Captain Hook (Peter Pan)
Si and Am (Lady & the Tramp)
    Malifecent (Sleeping Beauty)
    Cruella De Ville (101 Dalmations)
Madam Mim (Sword in the Stone)
    Shere Khan (The Jungle Book)
    Edgar (The Aristocats)
    Prince John (Robin Hood)
    Madame Medusa (The Rescuers)
    Horned King (The Black Cauldron)
    Ratigan (The Great Mouse Detective)
    Fagin (Oliver & Company)
    Ursula (Little Mermaid)
    Gaston (Beauty & the Beast)
    Jafar (Aladdin)
    Scar (The Lion King)
    Governor Radcliff (Pocohontas)
    Frollo (Hunchback of Notre Dame)
    Hades (Hercules)
    Shan Yu (Mulan)
    Clayton (Tarzan)
    Kron (Dinosaur)
    Yzma (The Emperor's New Groove)
    Commander Rourke (Atlantis)
    Captain Gantu (Lilo & Stitch)
    John Silver (Treasure Planet)
    Denahi (Brother Bear)
Alamida Slim (Home on the Range)
Bowler Hat Guy (Meet the Robinsons)

Other Disney animated films had more general villains, basically obstacles the main characters had to overcome - Bambi certainly had hunters, but the Forest was the greatest "villain" he faced. Dumbo had detractors and people that made fun of him but no real "villain". Interestingly, the later you go the more specific the villains became over all.

    Some others:
    Stromboli (Pinocchio)
    Chernabog (Fantasia)
    Man (Bambi)
Headless Horseman (The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad)
Sykes (Oliver & Company; Fagin isn't a villain- he's the owner of Dodger & friends)
    McLeach (The Rescuers Down Under)
    Foxy Loxy (Chicken Little)
Dr. Facilier (The Princess & the Frog)

I wouldn't really put Denahi as a villain; I can see where you're coming from, though.

One may or may not want to list Brom Bones (The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad) and Aunt Sarah (Lady & the Tramp), and at least the main mean elephant (Dumbo), as you mentioned.

Sometimes the villains turn around at the end, in a way, which would still include John Silver and Denahi (though it's been a while since I've seen either of those movies so I may be misrembering).

And I just can't see using the Fantasia film(s) in the list, simply because their individual segments were much shorter than any of the full-length films. Chernabog was more of an elemental bad guy without much nuance or craftiness to him like so many other Disney villains I hesitate to include him (any more than I would the Firebird from The Firebird Suite or the evil Jack-in-the-Box from The Steadfast Tin Soldier in F:2000 - they were antagonists but not really villians).

I forgot to name my own favorites: Scar and Captain Hook.
