Tron Legacy is Wilde

Tron Legacy (aka Tron 2.0) is still more than a year away from it’s theatrical release. Primary shooting just wrapped and now the intensive post-production process begins. Olvia Wilde (whom you may know from her role on “House”) sat down with ComingSoon.net for an interview where they talked about Tron Legacy.

We shot some 20-hour days, we were wearing the suits, which are not easy to wear. I was doing a lot of my own stunts and training a lot of the time. Really pushing myself physically as well as mentally. It was an epic undertaking. It was a HUGE film to shoot in those few days. I was so proud to be a part of it. The morning that we wrapped it was an unbelievable feeling. We all just lost it. It was sunrise and we couldn’t believe we were actually done.

So when do we start camping in line?

Tron Legacy Trailer

Here, direct from Comic-Con, is the teaser trailer for Tron Legacy (aka Tron 2.0 or TR2N). Note, this is essentially the same video from last year, just much better quality.

So Flynn Lives, eh. I’m certainly looking forward to this. Look for Tron Legacy to hit theaters in 2010.

TRON Viral Marketing at hit at SDCC

There was a lot of Disney related news from San Diego Comic-Con yesterday. I hope to do a complete roundup tonight. But this was so cool, I didn’t want to let it pass.

The folks at Disney started the buzz for the Tron sequel at last year’s con. This year they’ve revealed the films name – Tron Legacy – and some great concept art. But the real hit seems to be this new viral ARG that led some folks on a very special adventure last night:

I’ve got to say – this could easily have been one of the greatest viral marketing stunts I’ve ever seen. You probably all heard about the joker scavenger hunt at Comic-Con a few years back – this definitely topped that one. We honestly didn’t know what was happening every step of the way and it was so exciting to be a part of this. I really did get chills when I noticed that the sign above the inconspicuous building we were standing outside was a giant “Flynn’s” sign. It’s this kind of stuff that makes this so incredibly awesome – they know what will make fans just go crazy and they really blew our minds this time. Bravo, Disney!

Disney vastly expands Comic-Con presence

In these economic hard times, Disney is returning to their base — the fans. Outside of cyberspace, the number one place film fans congregate is Comic-Con each year in San Diego. So I’m not surprised to see Disney growing their presence at the event this year.

Alas, I’m no where near San Diego this time of year. So if you’re going I’d love to hear what you’re most looking forward to.

See below the cut for all of Disney’s offerings.

Disney Movie News Roundup

Quite a bit of news from the world of The Walt Disney Company’s various movie studios this weekend.

  • “Hannah Montana” crushed forecasts coming in #1 in the Box Office with $34 million. Good news for the next Miley Cyrus film, “The Last Song”.
  • The non-animated Disney film I’m most looking forward to is the TRON sequel. Turns out it’s already filming in Vancouver, BC.
  • Blue Sky Disney muses about the potential for a Pirates of the Caribbean IV. It’s likely to lose its Director and writers, but it is still an active concern for the Mouse House. Let’s just hope they stay away from Somalia.
  • May 29th will bring Pixar’s next film to theaters everywhere. But some folks in the Twin Cities have already seen the finished version of “Up”. Don’t expect to see this version on BitTorrent, Security was unbelievably tight.

Tron 2.0 – New Details Revealed

Ain’t It Cool News has some new details outlining the plot of the Tron sequel. It goes without saying there are spoilers aplenty, so don’t click through unless you want to be spoiled.

It sounds like they are still trying to decide on the title for the movie. It’s not likely to be TR2N or Tron 2.0. Whatever they call it, at least in online circles TR2N is shaping up to be Disney’s most anticipated future release and it doesn’t even open until 2011.

Previously: TR2N.

Tron Sequel Predicted to be Wild, Unlike Nothing Ever Seen

TRON 2.0, aka TR2N, the long anticipated sequel to the groundbreaking original Disney film has been picking up cast members and apparently impressing them. Olivia Wilde was quoted on the Golden Globes red carpet making some fairly lofty statements.

“It’s going to be a kind of revolution in filmmaking and film watching,” [Wilde said.]

“Now that everyone has such great entertainment systems in their house,” she continued, “they don’t need to go to the movies anymore, but we’re going to give them a reason to. Not only will it be 3-D, but they’ll be seeing things they’ve never seen before in film.”

The moviesblog at MTV News has more of the interesting details.

Speculation on Tron 2

TR2N Title

Brad Brevet at Rope of Silicon, a movie news website, had never seen the original Tron movie before. Hard to believe I know. But it provides him a unique (non-fanboy) perspective on TR2N, aka Tron 2.0, after watching the original for the first time.

one thing the first film does do is set up the sequel with many avenues to go down. Tron was something of a man against the system story, and it opens the door to a man against man inside the system story; it’s just a matter of whether or not man will continue to die while inside the system and how much effect the Disney production factor will have on the film’s storyline.

Obviously The Matrix already ripped off a lot of what Tron brought to the table initially, but in a far more elastic way. Tron is set in a very controlled environment, but it appears there is some leeway for a rogue program inside the system, which essentially is what Neo and Morpheus were when they jacked into the Matrix.

Lots of other interesting ideas there too.

I’m really jumping ahead a bit here, But the proof of concept footage leaked from Comic-Con showed me that TR2N could easily become another Walt Disney Pictures epic trilogy along the likes of Pirates Of The Caribbean or Narnia for Disney.

The basics rules for the rich world of Tron are already established, they just need to be fleshed out to a world wide level. There are also plenty of heavy issues involved with computers and their influences on our lives that haven’t been addressed since the original TRON was released. The original Matrix touched on it, but the sequels took another direction.

With some great screenwriters I think we could be loving this new world of TRON for years to come.
