A look ahead at Marvel’s big small screen expansion

Marvel is quite busy on the big screen, but they are even busier getting shows ready for the small screen. The efforts goes beyond Disney’s owned and operated channels including a variety of online streaming services and other broadcast networks. It can be a bit confusing, but we have a quick guide on where you should be watching.

Marvel’s Inhumans just kicked off its premier season following Black Bolt and the royal family from the comics. It has been met with lukewarm reception but we’ll see how the show develops over the next couple of months.

After Inhumans ends, Agents of SHIELD returns for its fifth season. Both of these shows are airing on Fridays this year which is usually not good news for the future of television shows.

Freeform is getting into the superhero game with Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger and New Warriors, both of which will begin airing next year.

Legion and The Gifted are both X-men related shows airing on FX and Fox respectively. Legion was one of the most popular superhero shows to come out in the past few years.

Netflix, despite struggling a bit with their latest two shows, isn’t slowing down either. After The Punisher we’ll see the return of Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage all of which have had new seasons green lit.

Hulu is also joining the MCU with The Runaways, a show about the kids of super villains.

In the world of animation, on Disney XD you can find the Avengers, Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy and Big Hero 6 as half-hour shows. Some of the best from Marvel animation, though, are the Rocket & Groot shorts and the Ant-Man shorts. The former has wonderful animation and creative story-telling and the later has a wonderful visual style reminiscent of old comics.

Often Marvel movies are criticized for being too similar but the same can’t be said for Marvel television. No matter what kind of fan you are, you can be sure to find something on TV that you will enjoy.

What’s your favorite Marvel TV show? What are you looking forward in the future?
