Pixar Studios offers master class in storytelling

Have you been dreaming of a career in film making? Do you want to make your own animated short? Would you like to learn some of the secrets of telling a great story? Thanks to a new collaboration between Pixar and Khan Academy, you can learn from the masters of storytelling. The best part? The online course is entirely free.

The class is called ‘Pixar in a Box‘ and it features a break down of Pixar’s film making techniques. A new set of lessons on the art of storytelling was just added to the existing course work as part of their third season of classes.

Course instructors include Pixar directors and story artists like Inside Out and Up director Pete Docter, Brave director Mark Andrews, Inside Out story artist Domee Shi, and Ratatouille animator Sanjay Patel.

The first lesson is now available online and lesson two is coming soon. Even if you’re not planning on a life making movies, you can apply the rules of storytelling in many parts of your career (such as the story marketers tell their customers about their products and services).

Why would Pixar offer these courses for free, because they want to make sure there is a steady stream of talent available for making films in the future.
