Ringling Bros Circus shuttering after 146 years

Some shocking news from the world of entertainment tonight. Kenneth Feld of Feld Entertainment, announced that this year would be the last for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
After much evaluation and deliberation, my family and I have made the difficult business decision that Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey will hold its final performances in May of this year Ringling Bros. ticket sales have been declining, but following the transition of the elephants off the road, we saw an even more dramatic drop. This, coupled with high operating costs, made the circus an unsustainable business for the company.

The Ringling Bros Circus started 146 years go. I think many fans expected it to change and become something of a technology heavy version of Cirque du Soleil, instead new economic realities were just too much.

We feel sorry for the families of the performers and backstage workers who were constantly entertaining audiences with high quality acts.

I grew up attending the circus and was happy to share that tradition with my son. The two tours will end in May of 2017, so you have a chance to catch them one more time

  1. I am so very sad about Ringling closing after so many years. I am a senior and fondly remember my parents taking me to the circus…I took my sons to the circus and was hoping my grandchildren would have a chance to enjoy the wonders of watching the circus. They will grow up not knowing what a circus is since they are very young. So sad….it was a wonderful family treat ..what is left now? Playing video games together? Children watching TV while Mom is on facebook or twitter? So sad……
