When Chadwick Bosemen appeared as the Black Panther in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War he was given a mini- origin story and a lot of well deserved screen time. That’s impressive given the number of Avengers who showed up in the show.

A recently released clip from the Blu-Ray edition of Captain America: Civil War, part of more than an hour of bonus features, shows Bosemen and goes into how he trained to get into fighting shape:

ESPN’s excellent new site The Undefeated takes a look at Bosemen’s role and his prep for the first solor film for Black Panther.

“I am of African descent,” said Boseman. “But I don’t have my direct ties because of the transatlantic slave trade. I don’t have that direct connection, so how can I make a deeper, more direct connection? For certain days, listening to certain music … Watching politicians give speeches, watching African politicians give speeches. One of the people that stuck out for us when we started was … Nelson Mandela, obviously.”

We’ve so far learned that Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan will join Bosemen in the Black Panther film. That’s possibly more star power than one film can handle, but I can’t wait to see them on the screen at the same time. It’s going to be amazing.
