D23 Expo in 2017 promises to be the biggest Disney fan event ever

Mickey Mouse D23 Expo

The wait is over, Disney’s official fan club, D23 has announced that its 2017 expo will be held over the weekend of July 14-16 at the Anaheim Convention Center. There you will find aspects from all corners of Disney’s expanding universe represented; including: theme parks, television, music, gaming, and films, including Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel.

Highlights planned for D23 Expo include the Disney Legends Ceremony, which honors the talented men and women who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy; an all-new exhibit curated by the Walt Disney Archives; D23 Expo’s costume contest, Mousequerade, showcasing the most creative designs by fans; the D23 Expo Emporium, where Disney fans can buy, sell, and trade Disney collectibles, memorabilia, merchandise, and more; and the D23 Expo Design Challenge.

EXPOLOGO_2017_72dpiThe 2017 Expo will feature a massive show floor full of immersive experiences and special opportunities to see what’s next for Disney around the world—and guests may run into their favorite Disney stars, characters, Imagineers, animators, and filmmakers. StagePass, the popular ticket distribution system that allows attendees to obtain guaranteed seats for some of Expo’s most popular presentations, and StorePass, which allows priority entry to select shopping venues at the event, will once again enhance the guest experience. Hall D23, the popular presentation and performance venue featuring more than 7,000 seats, will return, as will Stage 23, Stage 28, and Center Stage.

I’ll be straightforward, I’ve never personally attended a D23 Expo. I have sent representatives to cover the event for the blog, but frankly, the cost of traveling to the other side of the country to stand in a bunch of lines only seems like an exercise in frustration. Plus before last August, I hadn’t been to Disneyland in 10 years, so that was definitely higher on my priority list. I am excited about all the movie and theme park news that’s made at the expo and find that I’m anxiously following Twitter to see what’s announced. However, there are still a few things higher on my priority list than attending D23 Expo. If that’s your thing, I totally understand, and hope you enjoy the 2017 event. It sounds like Disney plans to do things right.

Advance tickets for D23 Expo 2017 will go on sale at D23Expo.com beginning July 14, 2016. D23 Members will receive special pricing on both one- and three-day tickets to the event, which is open to the general public. D23 Gold and Charter Members will also be entitled to special benefits at the 2017 Expo. Gold Members will also have an opportunity to purchase the Sorcerer Package, which provides a host of special benefits and amenities. Ticket prices will be announced this summer.

Now that there is a free option for D23 membership, I think that’s great. But I’m not a fan of having to travel to Anaheim for this event. It should alternate with the east coaster every other event. If you’ve been to the D23 Expo in the past, what would you like eto see them do differently?

  1. I went last year for the first time. It was highly frustrating being a gold member and they didn’t open the doors till it was time for the event to start. Because the line was so long we missed all the opening stuff. They should have let us in early in order to be present for the opening ceremonies. Star Wars conventions I’ve been to with the hubs were way different than this experience. Super epic long lines for everything. Like the Disney store was 4hrs + just to shop. i probably won’t go again, I won’t lose my love of Disney. Just the way they run D23, is not the best
