Star Wars: The Force Awakens sets more records

It’s beginning to sound like a bit of broken record. Yes, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has broken another box office record becoming the first ever movie to pass $800 million in the U.S.. It also stayed number one at the box office, edging out “The Revenant” for the weekend. That moves it past “Jurassic World” and into third place of all films with $812 million (not accounting for inflation, of course).

Although it was not expected to do very well, Disney had high hopes for Episode VII in China. Guess what it managed to soak up another $53 million for the biggest Saturday-Sunday opening of all time in that country. With China adding its considerable weight. “The Force Awakens” has now earned $921 million in international ticket sales. It still has a way to go as it’s still just number 7 on the top international movies of all time.

The Force is indeed strong with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” as it now has a global box office take of $1,733 million. It’s probably going to need some help to find that extra billion it will take to put it in front of “Avatar” for the global top spot… It will be close, but maybe Lucasfilm should be playing Powerball just in case.

  1. You need to check your sources because you’ve got incorrect data. It’s 1st Domestically and 3rd Internationally, All-Time, not adjusted.

  2. I think this is amazing. Let’s remember that Star Wars Ep. VII has done all this in 3 weeks and 3 days. I mean really. Avatar and Titanic went on for 34 weeks. Jurassic World recently went for 23 weeks. We have plenty of time. It should be really close breaking worldwide record. It may not make it but it surely has its share of records being broken. With the long weekend approaching, wonder if it can reach 900 mil. It may take two weeks though. I would be surprised if it didn’t hit 1 bil domestically. Loving my stock more and more.
