First photo from set of Marvel’s Doctor Strange

With production of Marvel’s Doctor Strange officially in production after filming began in Nepal, we have our first picture from the set courtesy Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito’s Twitter account:

Marvel has hired Benedict Cumberbatch to play the mysterious Doctor Strange, but there’s no sign of him in this photo. We do see, however, two important symbols from the comic books. The seal of Vishanti is on the door. That’s the school of magic Doctor Strange is taught in by the Ancient One. Sharp eyes will spot the Eye of Agamotto, the amulet that Strange uses to dispel magical illusions and glamours.

It’s hard to know if this is the Sanctum Sanctorum where Strange practices his magic while in New York or the temple of the Ancient one. There are a couple more pictures on D’Esposito’s twitter account with closer looks at the set. So I’m leaning toward Temple of the Ancient One.

Earlier this week, USA Today had a short video with Scott Derrickson, Kevin Feige, Steven Broussard and others from Marvel discussing the challenges of bringing the movie to life.

At the very end there appears to be a clip of concept art for the movie with someone one who resembles Benedict Cumberbatch in very Strange-like costume. It might be our first glimpse of how he’ll look in the movie.

This was one of the few comic books I regularly read as a kid. Oddly, I can hardly remember any of the stories though. I love Cumberbatch in nearly everything he’s done and can’t wait to see what he does in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. How about you?
