Students give school cafe worker a trip to Walt Disney World

There are stories that pull on your heart strings and stories that make you need a box of kleenex. Sometimes stories do both. That’s the variety that came out of Elon University this week when a group of students made a dream come true for one of the school cafe’s long time employees.

Elon University students Taylor Zisholtz and Lucy Smith-Williams were talking with Kathryn Thompson, who worked at Elon University as a cafe worker when Thompson told them that she had always dreamed of taking her family to Walt Disney World, but she had never even been outside the small community of Elon, North Carolina. The students knew Thompson was loved by the community and that they had a very real opportunity to make her dreams come true.

So Zisholt and Smith-Williams opened a GoFundMe campaign to raise enough money to send Thompson and her family to Walt Disney World. It took less than 3 days to meet their goal of $6500 and overall they raised over $9000 for the perfect Disney vacation.

Here’s a video of the two students surprising Thompson at the end of her shift.

Any Disney fan can understand those tears of joy, right? We hope Thompson and her family have a really magical time making her wish come true.
