  1. I can remember waiting in line for the movie when I was in the fifth grade and fell in love with it. I got the record album for Christmas and even dressed my Barbies as nuns to the Von Trapp children. I acted it out with my dolls and played the story with friends. When I got married, I had the students in my first grade class attend. They walked down the aisle before my bridesmaids, to the song ” My Favorite Things”.
I’ve been in the play and now I am excited to be directing the show at our middle school. We are so in love with the story and know that the halls are alive with the “Sound of Music”. I am sure that Julie Andrews would fall in love with our Von Trapp children! I have! What an honor to celebrate the 50 years of this classic!

  2. When I was 10 years old in 1965, I memorized every song, exactly as Julie Andrews sang them. I would walk/dance home, singing “I Have Confidence in Sunshine” just like in the movie! I was greatly influenced by Julie’s wonderful work, and did become a professional actress and singer in part because of her.
Thank you for this wonderful tribute!

  3. Bummed that I missed the first half hour of the show.. but, what I was able to see was mesmerizing and beautiful. The scenic views and travel destinations of the exact spots where the story actually occurred in Austria makes me want to book a future ticket and go see these places in person… Diane Sawyer was an excellent host and commentator along with Julie Andrews.
The show made me relieve my childhood memories of sitting down every year with my family since I am 10 years old to watch this beautiful story.
Is there any way to buy this special edition on DVD from ABC? I really would love a copy.

  4. I would love to have a copy of it if there is a DVD special. I just missed it, too and want to see it SO bad.
