Frozen Races To Another Box Office Freeze Out

FROZEN

On this weekend when severe storms may have kept audiences away from theaters across most of the US, Disney’s animated feature Frozen continued to freeze out the competition at the top of the box office. It iced out Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones and claimed the top spot with another $20.7 million. That brings Frozen’s domestic total to nearly $300 million in just its 7th week. When you add in the international box office Frozen has $640 million already in the bank.

Frozen still has a long way to go to catch Shrek 3 at the top of the animation chart, but it has now passed Pixar’s two Monsters, Inc films and Up. Ahead on the list is Shrek the Third. My guess is Frozen will end up somewhere right around the $380 million mark domestically. That puts it right up there with Finding Nemo and Despicable Me 2. But it’s international performance may lift it even beyond The Lion King‘s worldwide gross of $987 million.

I’m very glad to have another hit coming out of Burbank. To give you some idea of how well Frozen is doing, Disney’s Tangled, which judging by internet comments, is loved by everyone, finished with $200 million domestically and $592 million worldwide. Frozen is already way passed that.

Which did you like better Tangled or Frozen?

  1. I’ve seen “Frozen” three times now, I was extra impressed with it in 3D. “Tangled” was my all time favorite, but now I’m not so sure…

  2. As much as we loved Frozen, I didn’t think it was the best. It started off strong and lost steam by the end. Tangled was better.

  3. My daughter, son-in-law and grandsons went with us to see the movie and absolutely loved it. There was lots of laughs. Great job!

  4. Tangled, no question. Though I’ve seen Frozen twice now and only saw Tangled once in the theaters.. I think Frozen was SO hyped up that I anticipated it to be the best Disney animated movie of all time with the best songs ever and when it did not deliver that for me I left a little disappointed. If all that extra smothered on hype was not there I think I would have loved it much more and not have felt disappointed in a movie I actually really liked.
