A Few Choice Thoughts on ABC’s Premiere Week

abc

Another Fall TV Season has been shoved in our faces and I was in the midst of it. I had all my premiere dates in my school agenda and on my calendar at home… I was prepped and ready for premiere week. I skipped some shows I had written down and tried some ones I didn’t expect to like, but overall, I have enjoyed most of the shows I have watched. I wanted to give you the low down of my thoughts and the public’s thoughts in the form of ratings. Here we go!

      • Super Fun Night got some VERY mixed reviews, with some skewing very good, and some atrocious. I thoroughly enjoyed Rebel and the premise of the show, though some of the fat humor did get a little annoying by the end “Putting on Spanx is AWFUL!” montage. The show did quite well in the ratings, with a 3.2 rating and 8.2 million viewers, which did better than Suburgatory’s premiere in the post-Modern Family slot last year. While we will have to wait until next week to see how bad was the “Second Week Slide”, let us appreciate how the show has a theme song, but did a full music video (ala The Drew Carey Show) for it before the show even premiered.
      • Back in the Game, the fantastic new James Caan and Maggie Lawson comedy, dropped about 18% from week 1 to week 2, which isn’t half bad for a new comedy. Its final ratings for week 2 were a 1.9 in the key demo and 6.7 million viewers. I highly recommend you check it out if you haven’t yet, it is a ton of fun, even if you don’t like baseball (which I don’t).
      • ABC’s new Tuesday night brings us the crazy buzz-filled Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. This show had a lot running on it, and even though it dropped 34% between week 1 and 2, it still had a 3.1 rating and 8.4 million viewers, which is FANTASTIC for an ABC 8pm timeslot. The Goldbergs is really taking advantage of its S.H.I.E.L.D. lead-in, coming out of week two with 6.1 million viewers and a 2.2 rating. Trophy Wife has taken a bigger hit, with 4.2 million viewers and a 1.4 rating, but that still isn’t awful for the time slot and ABC. PLEASE, if you haven’t checked out Trophy Wife yet, stop everything you are doing and check it out. It really is the best new comedy of the season. Episode 2 was even better than the first, so watch it immediately.
      • Scandal kicked butt and took names, let me tell ya! A 3.6 in the key demo and 10.5 million viewers made it have a 71% increase since last year’s premiere and and 13% since its previous series high. It was also announced it was the #1 talked about show on Twitter, having over 700,000+ tweets during the hour. This shows that Scandal is now THE ABC show.

We still have some premieres to go (like Once Upon A Time In Wonderland), but this is the gist of the season. Let me know your thoughts on the new shows, the old shows, and what shows you want to see have another season. Until next time…Have a magical day!
