Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Episode 3 Preview – The Asset

Disney Marvel Shield

Previously, on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D:

The team went to Peru to figure out what the 0-8-4 is.

On the way, Skye begins questioning her place on the team, as do some of her teammates.

In Peru they find the object in question. We then get our first glimpse of Coulson’s backstory in the form of Camilla Reyes, who he had a past relationship with.

A fire fight with local rebels forces both Coulson’s team and Reyes’ team back on the bus (their name for the plane) and in the air. Fitz-Simmons discovers that the 0-8-4 is a weapon that is fueled the same way the Tesseract is.

At the same time, Coulson and Ward discover that Reyes and her team aren’t as friendly as they seem. They knock out May, capture the rest of team and take over the bus.

Coulson is with his old flame, but the others are tied up in the cargo bay. As a team, they break free and save Coulson and the bus.

The episode ends with a great cameo from Samuel L. Jackson.

So far, I am really enjoying this show. The stories have been good and I like seeing the dynamics between the characters.

I think, though, that the biggest draw for me is that I get to experience the Marvel Cinematic Universe every week with new episodes instead of rewatching the movies every time (not that I hate doing that either).

Also, there’s Coulson.

Now, on to this week:

The official synopsis is:

When the brilliant scientist Dr. Franklin Hall is kidnapped, Agent Coulson and his S.H.I.E.L.D. agents must race against the clock to locate him. Skye is their only way in — pushing the team to their limits when the entire plan turns upside-down.

They have also released a clip of Skye’s first training session with Ward.

It won’t necessarily bother me to see a romance bloom between these two, but I hope that it won’t be a major theme of the show for a while.

The last thing of note is that, in the comics, Franklin Hall becomes the villain, Graviton. It’s unlikely that we’ll see the transformation happen in this episode, but I look forward to seeing how it gets fleshed out.

(As an aside, if you want to check out Graviton in action, check out Season One, Episode Seven of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.)

Come back and tell me what you thought of “The Asset” after it airs tonight at 8pm (7 central) on ABC.
