Disney Magic Reaches Galveston, Texas for Inaugural Season

Disney Magic at Galveston

Today is a big day in the history of the Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Magic arrived in Galveston, Texas to kick off the Disney Cruise Line’s inaugural season sailing from the Port of Galveston. In 2012 and 2013, Disney Cruise Line will sail from Galveston on a variety of itineraries to the Caribbean and Bahamas, with some cruises taking guests to the Walt Disney World Resort and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.

“We are excited to add even more variety to our offering of itineraries from the Port of Galveston,” Disney Cruise Line President Karl Holz said in a statement. “The addition of shorter getaway cruises and voyages that call on our most popular port of call, Disney’s Castaway Cay, rounds out an impressive array of itinerary options from Galveston.”

To salute the arrival of the Disney Magic to the Lone Star State, members of the Ghostriders equestrian drill team from Houston, galloped nearby as the ship sailed into port.

In accordance with maritime tradition, Disney Cruise Line Captain Robert Olmer and his shipboard officers hosted local port officials and community leaders aboard the 2,700-passenger Disney Magic for a plaque exchange ceremony. To salute its arrival to the Lone Star State, the Disney Magic donned a Texas-sized cowboy hat on the ship’s funnel as crew members and Disney characters waved from the upper decks of the vessel.

“The city and the Port of Galveston have made the officers and crew members of the Disney Magic feel right at home, and we are so happy to be here,” said Disney Cruise Line Captain Olmer. “With these sailings, families from the central southern U.S. have the opportunity to sail from a port close to their own backyard. While in Galveston, families can enjoy the historic district, beaches, museums and festivals and soak up that famous Southern hospitality.”

Disney Cruise Line fans, will you be sailing out of Galveston anytime over the next two years?

  2. My husband and I sail next Saturday on the Magic for our first Disney cruise! We have cruised over 10 times, but are SO excited to finally have the opportunity for a DISNEY CRUISE. We live near Dallas, so we can drive to Galveston. Thanks for the pictures of the arrival. The cowboy hat was so cute.
