Jason Garcia at the Orlando Sentinel talks with the folks at runDisney and looks at how it’s become a real profit generator for the mouse house.

All of them are ultimately designed to feed into one another. Disney says nearly 120,000 runners signed up for runDisney races in 2011. And each registrant, on average, brings one or two friends or family members along for the trip.

“All of a sudden, you’re jumping into a quarter of a million-plus people participating in these races,” Potrock said.

95% of competitors in The Princess Half Marathon that runs this weekend are female and a large portion of them are first time participants in the event that means it’s Disney’s best chance to expose a new group of people to the Walt Disney World Resort.
