Wounded Military Heroes Play Ball at ESPN Wide World of Sports

Believe it or not spring training for Major League Baseball is less than a month away. Living in Central Florida is great, because you get to see many of the stars of the league as they come play during spring training. This week, however, there was another group of all-stars ball players in town — The Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball team has been practicing at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The Warriors are all soldiers who have lost a limb during combat in Iraq or Afghanistan, yet travel around the nation playing exhibition softball games.

I love to see the ESPN WWOS used for group like this. Just one of the ways Disney helps make the magic. In the following video you get to meet some of the team’s players, plus MLB All-Stars Johnny Damon and A.J. Pierzynski, joined the Wounded Warriors for a practice and chat.

Next up for the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball team are exhibition games in nearby Plant City, Fla., against several former U.S. Olympic softball team members such as Jennie Finch.

Thanks for the story, John. I’m ready for baseball.

Haven’t heard anything about your book lately. Any idea what the timeline is on that?
I can’t find your email address.

It’s pretty much done (although I’m thinking of redoing the cover). The hold up is on business end. I hope to get that resolved this month.

I heard that the Wounded Warriors team was playin this Saturday either at ESPNs Wide world of sports or in Plant City. If so where (address) and what time are they playing? My wife and I would like to attend. Thanks for any info you can provide.
