Aulani Grand Opening Ceremony Video

  • by

I was fortunate enough to be the guest of Disney for the opening of Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawai’i. The place is fantastic.

Before the trip I wasn’t sure whether or not the magic of Hawai’i needed a touch of Disney’s, but the fit is seamless. The combined storytelling of the islands and the mouse make for an amazing adventure. Really. I’m already making plans to return with my family so that they can also enjoy all that Aulani has to offer.

When I attended the opening ceremony I had no intention of filming it, but the minute it started I knew that the moment was one of significance, so I placed my drink in the sand and recorded the show on my iPhone. The quality is suspect, but I believe the feel of the night is still clear.

You may see some familiar faces in the crowd. I was standing with the Walt Disney Imagineers and Hawaiian artists that designed and created Aulani, and their excitement was palpable.

Okay, my apologies, but apparently the Internet hates me and I can’t embed the videos. I’m sure John will fix this in the morning, but until then please enjoy the videos on YouTube: part 1, part 2 and part 3 that show more of the ceremony!

  1. The place is over priced, has ride workers, and I heard the room layouts and showers are to complicated to work! people who go hate it and never want to return! You sure weren’t paid by disney to attend this were you? to say good things? Cause I have heard nothing but bad things, even that this is the worst tackiest thing disney has done to date just to make a quick buck off of DVC! To me thats just embarrassing for them.

    1. Then you’ve been talking to the wrong people. It’s amazingly detailed and a tribute to the islands. I’m taking my family back as soon as possible.

Showers hard to work? That may be the silliest thing I’ve heard yet. Thanks for the laugh.
