Disney to Extend The Lion King 3D Stay in Theaters

The 3-D reissue of the 1994 Disney animated feature “The Lion King” won 1st place at the box office for a second week in a row. The estimated $22.6 beat out Brad Pitt’s Moneyball and Morgan Freeman in Dolphin’s Tale. That makes the total take for The Lion King’s 3D release around $61.7 million.

This begs a question, with no real 3-D films opening next weekend, would Disney extend the run of The Lion King? Dave Holis, Disney Studios head of distribution, says yes. So check your local listings if you haven’t yet caught the updated version.

The 3-D Blu-ray / DVD version will still be released on Oct. 4th.
