Carsland – Pre-viz Drive Through from Walt Disney Imagineering

Time was when Walt Disney Imagineering would painstakingly create a scale model of whatever attraction or themed area they wanted to build. Yeah, they still do that, but it has its limitations. For instance you can’t really get a feel for line of sight and how buildings in the background will appear. Enter Pre-Viz.

Pre-viz, or Pre-Visualization, is a technique used by film studios to create animations of what a final filmed version of a particularly challenging or special effects laden sequence will look like. I’m sure WDI has been using pre-viz for some time now. But this time they’re released one to the public.

Can’t wait to take a stroll through Radiator Springs? If the opening of Cars Land at California Adventure park next year has you ready to cruise past Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and Luigi’s Flying Tires, then you don’t want to miss this video

Obviously, nothing like the real thing. But I definitely have a better feel for how the area is laid out and how authentic it will be when it comes to recreating the experience from Pixar’s Cars movies.
