Disney Vacation Club Remakes Logo to Reflect Changed Brand

Since 1991 the Disney Vacation Club has enticed Disney fans to buy into the magic as part owner of a timeshare property located right on Walt Disney World. Since then they’ve expanded to other locations in Florida, Disneyland, and soon Hawaii. Add to that the over 500 vacation options around the world open to DVC members and you have a much different division than what started 20 years ago.

A brand new logo has unveiled that reflects the more worldly reach of DVC.

It will soon begin to replace this old logo, which appears in a surprisingly number of places across the Disney World property.

The old logo works better for me. I like the palm trees and island feel. Plus the background still has the globe map feel. The new logo is just too cold with all those blues and greys. Those are not the colors I associate with travel. I also think that DVC is more than just Mickey ears. It’s hard to tell what DVC does just by looking at the logo, where if you remove all the words from the old logo it’s still obvious that travel is involved.

What do you think?

  1. I may be in the minority here, but I like the new logo. It looks more stylish to me. Also, everyone should already know what DV is and the fantastic trips they offer, so to me it really isn’t a big issue…just as long as the logo’s always show something connecting Disney, then I’ll always be fine with it. Thanks for the information though!

  2. I’m not a fan of the newer logo. It looks like it’s for an internet company or something. It doesn’t say vacation club to me.

  3. The new logo, as contemporary as it appears, seems to lack the touch of personality that the previous one registers. The new version brings to mind a quickly designed logo that doesn’t impart a family friendly image relating to vacations. I believe they could incorporate the world Mickey from the new into the older Sun Mickey above the mountain peaks, for what that is worth.

  4. While I am not a fan of change, I really like the look of the new logo. It’s more modern and not so cutesy-cartoonish. But, that’s just me.

  7. As a professional designer with decades of experience, I’ve always hated the old logo. It had neither the charm of 1920’s era Disney, nor the slick beauty of the latest Disney designs. That DVC logo looked nothing like anything else in the Mickey universe, in a bad way. It basically looked like something a self-proclaimed “graphics artist” did in Microsoft Powerpoint one day for a presentation, and then an executive liked it and ran with it. It was an embarrassment.

Us snooty designer types tend to think these things can be qualitatively “good” or “bad” and by my definition, the new logo is a radical improvement. I’m a DVC member and can’t wait to get a new membership card!

  8. Although I agree with Dylan Malone, as far as the graphic design quality of the old logo, I like it better than the new logo in theory. As Beth pointed out, there’s a pretty obvious reference to the Cast Member badges which is really cool. To me it says, “No mattter where you are, if you’re with us, you’re going to get that Disney Guest Service that we’re famous for. Come, be our Guest anywhere in the world!”

  9. It looks good, but I can’t see where the idea of the “wordly reach” comes from. All i can see is north and central America in a Mickey head. It probably won’t say too much to the many thousands of members not from North America.
