Dapper Day at Disney Parks – This Sunday

This crossed by desk today and I was intrigued. I’ve covered a few of those fan organized ‘theme days’ at the parks before and everyone looked like they were having a ton of fun. Alas, I didn’t quite fit the mold of the average attendee so my participation was limited. However, this “Dapper Day at Disney Parks” event is something anyone with a sense of style, or a partner with a sense of style, can enjoy.

Spend a day at the park in high style.
Sunday, February 20 ยท 12:00pm – 11:30pm
See the facebook event page for more details.

The original Disneyland designers frequently populated their renderings with guests who appeared dressed for a day of sophisticated entertainment – because this was Disneyland after all! A new, highly developed, exhaustively detailed entertainment experience. No flip-flops or cargo shorts here! These were men in sharp suits, toddlers working two-pieces, and ladies looking like pages from Dior’s sketchbook – all as if a visit to Disneyland were on par with a night at the opera. And why shouldn’t it be? That’s what this day is about, realizing those designer’s dreams that Disneyland be seen as the upscale escape that it is, filled with guests dressed appropriately for it.

Interpret this however you like. A period “Mad Men” look is as correct as the latest haute couture, be creative, go Gaga, anything that would make the legendary and stylish Disney designers Mary Blair, John Hench, Herbie Ryman, Dorthea Redmond, Harriet Burns and the rest of the stylish WED lot look proud – or blush!

Bring cameras. Stage impromptu photoshoots. Be Dapper.

The original event was organized for Disneyland, but us east coasters can get in on the fun too. I’m recommending a 2pm meet up in front of Cinderella Castle for a group photo.

Disneyland closes at midnight (California Adventure at 10pm) Sunday Feb 20th.

  1. That actually sounds like fun. Of course, I can’t even get myself to wear jeans to the parks these days unless it’s the dead of what passes for winter.

  5. Hooray!
We were trying to decide if we wanted to go to Disneyland this Sunday or Monday and this clinched it!
    See you at the castle!

  6. With enough advance notice (months and months), my husband and I would TOTALLY plan a trip around this (traveling from out of state and DVC members). What fun! It completely fits us and we would love it!!
