Let the Memories Begin Press Event – Part 1

In the same week that multiple rumors have started to spread about an expansion of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure even to the point of survey equipment being spotted backstage, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts held a media event to highlight changes coming to Disney’s properties.

Below Al Weiss, President of Disney Parks and Resorts explains all the changes coming to Disney’s properties outside of Central Florida:

Forgetting the developments in the Disney parks around the rest of the world, and there are many, it’s hard not to compare the improvements coming to Walt Disney World with the very successful Harry Potter themed land. In the scheme of things Disney is doing a lot more than Universal Studios, but is quantity better than quality?

Follow below the jump for more from the press event:

Here Meg Crofton, President of Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts, has a peak at some of the exciting new attractions coming in 2011:

I keep hoping that Star Tours 2.0 will be great for DHS. But it’s not a whole new land, something that could really compete with Harry Potter.

Over in the Magic Kingdom, Disney is developing a whole new land. Walt Disney Imagineer Eric Jacobson walks us through the recently changed plans for New Fantasyland.

I left the media event with a feeling that Disney was committed to improving the guest experience at its parks. I’m still not sure they’re ready with a real answer for Harry Potter, but I’m keeping my hopes up they’ll announce something soon.

  1. Walt Disney had it right when he made WDW.. the blessing of size. Universal is gonna have to destroy some more stuff in order to expand WWOHP. Disney has enough room for so much more stuff and that’ll give them the advantage. Even after the expansions are done, Disney did recently acquire Marvel.. so they can also work off of that. :o)
