Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theater has announced a partnership with Disney Theatrical to bring a full length Broadway musical version of the hit animated feature Aladdin to the stage. A post on the theaters facebook page indicates that this will include some of the songs from the Disneyland stage musical version, but is otherwise a new production.
Disney has been known to partner with local theater companies to workshop a new musical before moving it to Broadway. With the Broadway talent lined up to produce this version, that is likely the goal here as well.
It’s been general knowledge among Disney theme park fans that the Aladdin show was being considered for a jump to a full length version. I wish the production team lots of luck in making it a success.
Tickets go on sale Tuesday the 18th with the show premiering in July 2011. More details in the Seattle Times.
